Week 17 - Dec 4 - PTA Newsletter

Dear Sulphur Springs Parents and Guardians,

Holiday Shop is this week!  SSPTA opens a special room at school filled with great gift ideas for everyone in your child’s life.  All classes will be offered a preview of the Holiday Shop on Monday, and then they will return later in the week to make their purchases (with funds that you send in for them).  Students love that they can get you something that’s truly a surprise.  When else do they get the opportunity to shop without you?

Please read more below to learn about our new cashless system for Holiday Shop or to let us know if you would like to volunteer with our Holiday Shop.

  1. Holiday Shop – For all students! (12/4-12/8)

Please be sure to send in your student’s shopping list and your payment ASAP.

Participation in Holiday Shop is optional.  We do not want any student or family to feel obligated to deposit money nor to make any purchases.  Some families do; some families don’t.  Some students spend all the money they have budgeted; most do not.  The SSPTA simply provides this service so students can have an opportunity they might not otherwise get to independently purchase gifts for loved ones.

This year, we are transitioning to a cash-free Holiday Shop.  You can deposit money (in increments of $5) for each of your students on the PTA website at https://www.sspta.org/collections/events/products/holiday-shop-deposit.

You are also welcome to send a personal check with your student made out to SSPTA (or Sulphur Springs PTA).  These are best sent stapled to your child’s “shopping list”.  (This flyer is attached, and it will also be sent home with your student no later than Monday.)

If your student does not spend the entire amount, you send/deposit, we are happy to write a refund check for any amount remaining over $5.  (Because of PTA requirements, these refunds will be sent home with your student during the week of December 11th.  Please note, there will be a 5% fee – with a minimum fee of $1 – deducted from the refund amount to cover our online processing fees and our check-writing costs.)  You may alternatively choose to donate the remaining amount to the PTA.

If you have any questions about Holiday Shop, please contact the chairperson Jeanette James at mrsjdjames@yahoo.com.  For questions regarding deposits or refunds, please contact SSPTA President Jessica Coleman at President@sspta.org.

If you’d like to help with Holiday Shop, we still need volunteers who are willing to wrap gifts at home (or at school) or who can assist students with making the perfect selection for the loved ones in their lives.

For more information, please reach out to the Holiday Shop Chairperson Jeanette James (mrsjdjames@yahoo.com), or sign up online at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090B48AAAC28ABFF2-45981470-holiday.

Holiday Shop is hosted by the 6th Grade Committee and serves as a fundraiser, so they can purchase t-shirts for every student in the Class of 2024, celebrate their achievements at a special end-of-the-year outing, and have an amazing promotion ceremony.

  1. “Restaurant Night” at The Open Book

This month, our Restaurant Night isn’t about food!  (Don’t we have enough of that this time of year, anyway?)  You can stop by this Wednesday, December 6, and check out the books and non-book items offered at our local bookstore, The Open Book.

They are located at 19188 Soledad Canyon Rd, at the intersection of Whites Canyon, in the shopping center with Walgreens and Food4Less.  Wednesday’s hours are 10am to 7pm.

  1. After School Art and Chess (at Valley View Elementary School)

We have had a number of families ask about after-school activities, and I wanted to be sure you are all receiving your PeachJar flyers.  These are online/digital flyers sent by the district about activities you might be interested in.

For example, there is an after-school art/drawing class and an after-school chess club at Valley View Elementary on Thursday evenings.  Information is available on the PeachJar system at https://app.peachjar.com/flyers/all/districts/35545/

You can also sign up on PeachJar to receive future flyers that might be of interest.

SSPTA would like to recognize these amazing volunteers for their willingness to donate their time and energy to making our school just a little bit better.  Thank you!
